If your M5's or M6's rod bearings need to be replaced it's a major overall and a lot of parts are required. FCP Euro offers a basic service kit for this as well since we know some customers have already ordered other parts and don't need a complete, comprehensive kit such as this one. However, we also know that going through ETK diagrams and spotting every single individual piece including the VANOS oil filter located between the engine block and oil pan can take a lot of time. Enter, this comprehensive S85 rod bearing replacement kit.

The E60 M5 and E63/E64 M6 are epic cars featuring a high revving naturally aspirated V10. In order for the S85 V10 to reliably hit it's 8250 RPM rev limit the engineers at BMW had to make a sacrifice. All high revving naturally aspirated engines need as little friction of internal components as possible. Using narrower bearings means the engine has less internal friction but it also means the narrower bearings are more susceptible to wear and tear since they hand a major load. The good news is the S85 main bearings are pretty robust. The bad news is the originally equipped lead based rod bearings are not.

In mid 2010 BMW introduced a new rod bearing made out of Bi-metal aluminum. This was not only to ensure better durability of the rod bearings but also to meet new EU standards in regards to the use of copper and hard metals in engine components. The newer bearing which are featured in this kit were also used in the factory on production S65 V8's used in the E9X M3. Most M3's produced after mid 2010 do not have rod bearing wear issues since the clearance was improved and the bearing is much more durable compared to the original lead bearings.
