Product Information
When replacing power steering pumps it is highly recommended to replace the power steering reservoir along with the suction hose. The primary reason for replacing these components (particularly the filter) is to remove contamination in the system from a failed power steering pump.
You will want to do a thorough job flushing out all of the old power steering fluid from the system to ensure no contaminants are left in the system particularly if there was a power steering pump failure before.
Included in this kit are the replacement suction and return hose along with the filter/reservoir assembly. FCP Euro also includes the OE crimp style clamps for required installation.
Power steering pumps pressurize the fluid in the steering hydraulic system to allow for steering assist at slow road speeds. The power steering system is powered by the engine via a serpentine or v belt which spins the pump pulley. Power steering pumps are generally a lifetime component.
However, poor power steering system maintenance, old power steering fluid, and incorrect power steering fluid can cause the pump to fail prematurely. If your power steering pump is screaming or chirping when you are turning the wheels you may need to replace it.
