Product Information
Set of Lemforder tension struts, arguably the most critical component in the front suspension
Tension struts are a common wear item on higher mileage vehicles. The inner bushing is a common failure point due to extraneous bushing deflection. The inner bushing is prone to tearing a leaking which will allow for significant play in the front suspension along with knocking noises while turning or traveling over bumps. In addition to bushing failure the outer ball joint, which is integrated into the arm itself, can also wear out. Play in this joint is also critical to check for.
Your BMW's tension strut is designed to locate the entire front strut assembly. It is under constant tension from suspension movements as well as road forces. Over time the inner bushing is known to fail allowing for this assembly to move freely resulting in poor handling, vibration, and noises.
Per BMW TIS recommendations it is required to replace tension struts in matched pairs.
