How Can I Determine If I Have a TRW, ZF, or Cam Gear Rack

You can determine what type of Rack & Pinon was originally installed on the car by locating a service plate found on the Trunk frame or Door pillar. It will list many different components, with one being the Steering Gear. On this plate, to the right of the words steering gear you will see a number - 2345. The numbers 2, 4, or 5 designates a Cam Gear rack was used, number 3 designates a ZF rack was used.

Another way to tell is to look at the inner tie rod. If the boot clamps straight onto the tie rod shaft, this is a CAM steering rack. If the boot clamps down onto a disk that has a larger diameter than the inner tie rod shaft, then this is a ZF rack.
