A basic service kit designed to repair a pinion seal leak on E9X M3's
If your BMW's differential pinion seal is leaking it is important to address the problem as soon as possible. A leaking seal not only allows fluid to leak out of the differential but it also allows contaminants from the outside to get in.
In order to remove the seal a bunch of parts will need to be removed including the exhaust and drive shaft. Once the exhaust and drive shaft are removed from your M3 the flange can be removed from the differential and the seal can be replaced.
Please note: Before removing the nut from the flange it must be marked in order to properly realign it. We suggest using a center punch to mark both the input shaft as well as the nut. It is also advised to mark the position of the flange as well to ensure a balanced assembly. Also, vehicles before 9/2009 use special alignments for balancing. A special washer is required to balance the assembly of the drive shaft when the CV joint is bolted to the input flange. The fluid level will need to be checked after the seal is replaced. However, we highly recommend replacing the fluid in the differential with SAF-XJ + FM. We have a service kit available under p/n 33117525064KT if needed.
