How Often Should the GTR Transmission Oil and Pan Filter be Replaced?
The GR6’s wet clutches rely on transmission fluid for lubrication, which becomes dirty over time due to clutch disc wear. Replacement fluid should closely match the original to maintain clutch function, as dirty fluid can impair lubrication and disrupt solenoids responsible for shifting and clutch control. Nissan recommends changing the R35 GTR transmission fluid every 36,000 miles.
For those who are racing or using their GTR for track use should note that fluid reaching 248°F should be replaced every 3,000 miles, and fluid above 284°F should be changed immediately. This high-temperature threshold mainly affects track drivers; if a GR6 transmission reaches 230°F during regular street driving, a professional diagnosis is advised to prevent major repairs.
The transmission pan filter should be replaced during transmission and differential oil changes, to ensure long-term transmission health. The Dodson OEM GR6 transmission pan filter is cleanable and reusable.
