Product Information
The transfer case in AWD transfer engine Volvos sends power to the rear wheels based on a splined coupling called an Angle Gear Sleeve, which is designed to adapt a FWD car to AWD by placing the sleeve between the transmission output shaft and the transfer case.
This specific service kit is for later R models (B5254T4) with 6-speed TF-80SC automatic transmission.
Since these short splines carry so much load, it's not uncommon for them to fail catastrophically and strip out, causing the vehicle to become front wheel drive only. That is especially true with higher power models like the S60R and V70R. This kit contains a brand new angle gear sleeve, as well as seals and snap ring to replace a stripped or worn out component.
